Biography of Attorney Brenden J. McMahon

  • I graduated from Bates College with a B.A. in Economics in 1993, and cum laude with a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1999.
  • For the first year after graduating from Law School, I worked as an associate for a law firm in Wellesley, MA.  The practice focused primarily on Insurance Defense Litigation.
  • The following year, I moved to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney (ADA).
  • For the first year, I was assigned to the Lowell District Court, where I prosecuted Operating Under the Influence (OUI), Drug crimes, and property crimes (like breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property, larceny, etc.).
  • The second year I was chosen to participate in a federal grant program.  I was assigned to the Lowell Police, West Sector (covering the Highlands and Acre neighborhoods of Lowell).  I had an office in the police department building, and worked closely with the officers and detectives in the West Sector.  I prosecuted crimes from the West Sector area.  The focus of the crimes I prosecuted were drugs (including distribution and school zone violations); property damage crimes; public order crimes; prostitution; and gang prosecutions.
  • The third year I was with the District Attorney’s Office, I was assigned to be the Supervisor of the Lowell Juvenile Court.  My responsibilities included oversight of another ADA and the daily prosecution of all Juveniles from the Lowell area, which includes Chelmsford, Tyngsboro, Lowell, Billerica, Tewksbury, and Dracut.
  • For the last nine months I was with the District Attorney’s Office prior to joining Rick’s firm, I was the head of the Juvenile Justice Division for Middlesex County.  I was responsible for the daily operations of all of the Juvenile Courts in Middlesex County.  I reviewed every prosecution in the county, and made decisions on whether or not to indict (as an adult) felony offenders as a Youthful Offender, in conjunction with the Deputy Director of the District Courts.  I was in charge of overseeing legal and other training for the Middlesex County Juvenile Justice Division staff.
  • While at the District Attorney’s Office, I tried dozens of bench and jury trials, presented several cases to the grand jury, and argued countless motions to suppress and dismiss.  I also handled many violations of probation hearings.
    • In addition to my former responsibilities as a prosecutor, I also participated in the following while an ADA (as a speaker):
    • August, 2002 – Speaker at The Lowell Sun’s Newspapers in Education seminar
    • November, 2002 – Presented to the Greater Lowell Bar Association on the new Operating Under the Influence Laws
    • May, 2003 – Faculty (presenter) at Suffolk Law School’s Fifth Annual Juvenile Justice Conference: Children on Trial; A Presentation of Trial Skills
    • May, 2003 – Guest Speaker at Marlborough School’s D.A.R.E. Commencement (on behalf of District Attorney Martha Coakley)
    • September, 2003 – Panelist with District Attorney Martha Coakley at the 8th Annual School Safety Summit
  • In January of 2004, I left the District Attorney’s office to work for Rick (Law Office of Richard A. Lalime).  I now serve clients and their families in the Lowell, Massachusetts area as a Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, Real Estate, and Wills & Estates lawyer.
